A Litmus Test of Academic Quality

The paper discusses the major issues connected with the accreditation procedures in higher education system in the U.S. The questions raised are as follows: what are the reliable and credible indicators of quality instruction that could be measured in the process of accreditation of higher education institutions? How does greater transparency in the accreditation process serve students and the public? What is the role that accreditors on federal and state levels can play in improving institutional accountability or changing institutional behaviour; and hence, what are the standards and implications of federal vs. state involvement in the accreditation process? What is accreditation’s role in addressing problems raised by arbitrary denial of transfer of credit? And what role does accreditation play in assessing distance education? The paper supports the idea that high quality instruction, academic freedom, accountability and transparency should go hand in hand. Agreement should be reached between different parties involved on what to consider as reliable and credible indicators of quality instruction and how to best measure them for the purposes of accreditation. The evaluation data should be made a public knowledge to increase transparency and serve student interests. And finally, preserving the unique balanced relationship and golden medium that exists between peer review and appropriate levels of government involvement in the process of accreditation would be the best option for further development of higher education in the U.S.accreditation; autonomy; accountability; regional and national standards of quality; federal and state funding of higher education; economic development; invetsment in human capital; economic growth; transparency; power struggles.

The Federal Railroad Administration's research and development program relating to intercity rail-passenger ride quality focuses on developing ride quality design criteria and specifications. The FRA ride quality test program and some of the techniques being used to analyze and evaluate the design criteria of the program are discussed

Automatic, nondestructive test monitors in-process weld quality

    Get PDF
Instrument automatically and nondestructively monitors the quality of welds produced in microresistance welding. It measures the infrared energy generated in the weld as the weld is made and compares this energy with maximum and minimum limits of infrared energy values previously correlated with acceptable weld-strength tolerances

Variation aware analysis of bridging fault testing

This paper investigates the impact of process variation on test quality with regard to resistive bridging faults. The input logic threshold voltage and gate drive strength parameters are analyzed regarding their process variation induced influence on test quality. The impact of process variation on test quality is studied in terms of test escapes and measured by a robustness metric. It is shown that some bridges are sensitive to process variation in terms of logic behavior, but such variation does not necessarily compromise test quality if the test has high robustness. Experimental results of Monte-Carlo simulation based on recent process variation statistics are presented for ISCAS85 and -89 benchmark circuits, using a 45nm gate library and realistic bridges. The results show that tests generated without consideration of process variation are inadequate in terms of test quality, particularly for small test sets. On the other hand, larger test sets detect more of the logic faults introduced by process variation and have higher test quality

This study aims to determine the influence of Product Quality (X1) and Service Quality (X2) towards Bebek Goreng Harissa Palembang Restaurant’s Customer Satisfaction (Y). The research location in Bebek Goreng Harissa Palembang Restaurant. The population in this study is the people in the Palembang city or customers who have come and bought food and beverage products at Bebek Goreng Harissa Palembang Restaurant. The sample size is 100 respondents. Data collection in this study was using interview and questionnaire method. This type of research is a case study. This research uses multiple linear regression analysis using the help of SPSS 20 program. Result of validity test with Pearson Correlation test of product quality, service quality and customer satisfaction show that r count more than r table and test result reliability test of variable quality of product, service quality and customer satisfaction have Cronbach's Alpha value above 0,06 . The results showed that product quality (X1) variables significantly and positively influence customer satisfaction (Y) at Bebek Goreng Harissa restaurant, service quality has a significantly and positively influence on customer satisfaction at Bebek Goreng Harissa Palembang restaurant

Using Macroinvertebrates to Test the Water Quality of Lake Nacogdoches

    Get PDF
The target of this assessment was to conduct a water quality test on Lake Nacogdoches in Nacogdoches TX. Lake Nacogdoches is operated by the city of Nacogdoches for municipal water supply and recreation. One of the tests that we ran to determine water quality was a macroinvertebrates test. To do this, we kicked up substrate to expose the organisms burrowed deep in the soil and caught them in a d-frame kick net. We then used our macroinvertebrate key to identify the organism and find the level of biodiversity in the lake. This test is essential because biodiversity affects climate stability, the food web, and the maintenance of the entire ecosystem. Therefore, this test will tell us the overall health of the ecosystem as well. Water quality tests will be used to find any pollutants in the area. Testing at the boat ramps by the dam where the water is taken to the Nacogdoches surface water treatment facility is key to find pollution that could be entering our water. At both the East and Westside park, we collected water samples over three different days and then took the samples to the Environmental Assessment lab for testing. Using a thermometer, Hq40d Probe, spectrophotometer, and colorimeter, we tested the samples for temperature, PH, dissolved oxygen, and nitrite (low range)

A Test of the Quality of Concentration Indices

    Get PDF
Theory predicts a positive relationship between market concentration and profitability in most scenarios. In empirical work, however, this relation is frequently not found or only a weak connection is observed. We compare the performance of concentration and market share variables, which are generated on the basis of the official industry classification, with information collected directly from firms. Information from companies on the number of competitors, their relative size and the intensity of price competition is highly significant in explaining profit levels, while none of the concentration indices performs well. Hence, the poor quality of industry data is responsible for the loose connection that is usually found between concentration and profitability. --Concentration Indices,Profitability,Discrete Regression Models

Analisis Pengaruh Brand Equity Terhadap Keputusan Pembelian Konsumen Pada Produk Gula Tropicana Slim Di Palembang

This research aims to test the influence of brand equity towards decision purchase consumers on product Tropicana Slim in Palembang. Variable brand equity is divided into four, namely brand awareness, brand loyalty, brand association, and perceive quality. Analysis techniques were used, namely the validity of the test, test, test the reliability of classical assumptions (test test, multicollinearity, normality and test heterokedastisitas), multiple linear regression test, t-test and F-test statistics, test results showed variable. brand awareness, brand loyalty, and brand association does not affect consumer purchasing decisions at Tropicana products Slim in Palembang. Variable perceive quality shows that there is an impact on consumer purchasing decisions at Tropicana products Slim in Palembang

Compact Structural Test Generation for Analog Macros

    Get PDF
A structural, fault-model based methodology for the generation of compact high-quality test sets for analog macros is presented. Results are shown for an IV-converter macro design. Parameters of so-called test configurations are optimized for detection of faults in a fault-list and an optimal selection algorithm results in determining the best test set. The distribution of the results along the parameter-axes of the test configurations is investigated to identify a collapsed high-quality test se
